DMFM (Desus & Mero special)

Network: Showtime
Watch: Link

DMFM was a one-off special that aired on Showtime. The concept was a “washed” radio program broadcasting from an actual laundromat. This idea was based on a recurring joke on Desus and Mero’s Bodega Boys podcast. We ran with the idea and I designed and made a 3D laundromat converted to a radio station.
The green screen shoot was complicated due to covid protocols but we made it work and it looked great.

At the time, because of covid protocols and safe distancing, we couldn’t shoot the guys together at the same table. So we shot them safely distanced in the same space, but the issue was that they couldn’t see each other. This created an interaction and eye line problem. To solve this, we used monitors, placing one each at Desus and Mero’s respective desks at approximately the location where the other’s head would be in the composited wide shot. It turned out to be a great solution and with some additional direction to the guys to look at their monitors frequently, it solved the eye line issue.
